Your spoon comes ready to use but it is recommended you season it before use to ensure a long lasting life. Each spoon has already been hand sanded and prepped for a nice dose of mineral oil. Should you prefer not to season your spoon, make sure you hand wash with dish soap prior to use! Each spoon comes with these instructions.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
Dishpan Food Grade Mineral Oil
Mix one part white vinegar to five parts warm water in a dishpan or bowl and soak the wooden spoons for several minutes. Rinse the spoons with warm water and allow them to dry completely. It may take two to three days for the spoons to completely air dry.
Use a clean dish rag or paper towel to dip into your food grade mineral oil, coating your spoons generously. Place them on a baking sheet to soak for a few hours. If your spoon immediately absorbs all the oil, add another coat as you want them to be flooded with oil.
Use the cloth to remove any excess oil that may not have absorbed and put the spoons on your baking sheet in a 350 degree oven for two minutes. Remove and allow the spoons to cool. Now your spoons are ready to use!
Rinse your seasoned spoons with warm water and soap after each use, do not put in dishwasher.
To avoid bacterial contamination, re-season your wooden spoons any time they are used to touch raw meat or eggs.
